SURFACTANTS

Alkyl polyglucosides (APGs) by UNIcare.
Products Description

Alkyl polyglucosides (APGs), are made from fatty alcohols derived from renewable resources such as palm kernel oil, and glucose from renewable resources like corn. As shown in the figure below ( n is generally in the range of 1.1-3, R represents the alkyl group, and the carbon chain length is 8-18).

APGs is a type of non-ionic surfactant with comprehensive performance. It has excellent detergency and foaming properties, low irritation, and good ecological safety. It is internationally recognized as the preferred "green" functional surfactant.

UNI_APGs are from the Chinese supplier UNIcare.

APGs Have Excellent Cleaning And Foaming Ability.

As a non-ionic surfactant, APGs has excellent cleaning performance, with its cleaning ability comparable to anionic LAS and AES. APGs has high foaming power and foam stability, with fine and rich foam that is thick and stable. Overall, its foam performance is superior to that of non-ionic surfactant AEO9.

Traditional kitchen detergents primarily consist of LAS and AEO9. Due to their poor solubility, a relatively high amount of toxic cosolvents is often added to improve performance. In contrast, APGs exhibits excellent synergistic effects with LAS. The foaming performance of APGs & LAS combinations is superior to that of individual components and remains unaffected by water hardness. By using LAS in combination with APGs, the need for additives can be reduced. Additionally, APGs offers easy rinsing, leaves no streaks, and provides a refreshing and comfortable user experience, making it a key ingredient in the new generation of dishwashing detergents.

In liquid laundry detergents, replacing part of AES and LAS with APGs enables effective cleaning of various fabrics, efficiently removing dirt and grease. It also provides softening, anti-static, and anti-shrinkage functions, with notable performance even in hard water.

For bathroom cleaners, formulations based on APGs surfactants, combined with anionic surfactants like LAS and non-ionic surfactants such as 6501 and AEO9, demonstrate significant stain removal efficacy. When used in toilet cleaners, APGs helps protect rubber and plastic components of the toilet.

In personal care products, shampoos and body washes formulated with APGs as a base surfactant exhibit strong foaming power, producing white, fine foam. They have a softening effect on the skin, cause no eye irritation, and perform well in hard water, offering excellent care benefits. This makes APGs particularly suitable for high-end toiletries and children's shampoos. The mildness of APGs also provides protection for damaged hair, making it suitable for hair dyeing and perming products. When combined with protein hydrolysates, its setting performance is comparable to commonly used fixatives like polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), yet it rinses out more easily.

APGs Exhibit Low Irritancy:

One reason for surfactant-induced irritation is their interaction with skin proteins, which leads to keratinocyte swelling and irritation. Due to their large hydrophilic head groups, APGs are hindered from reacting with amino acid side chains, thereby reducing keratinocyte swelling. Moreover, when combined with surfactants like SLES, non-ionic APGs diminish the electrostatic repulsion of SLES's anionic groups, promoting the formation of large rod-shaped micelles. These micelles are less prone to penetrate the skin, thus reducing interaction with skin proteins and subsequent irritation.

APGs are Environmentally Friendly:

The synthesis of APGs primarily yields only APGs and water, with almost no generation of other harmful substances during the process. Additionally, APGs demonstrate excellent biodegradability.
